How Much Is Liability Insurance For Vicious Dog?
Posted by Kuka under auto on 15 七月, 2009We live in Ohio. My boyfriend just got a pit-bull mix. I told him he needs the insurance. I am curious how much a month that might cost. I am trying to prepare him so he can budget wisely and to make sure he can afford to have the insurance to have this dog as well. If anyone can give me any other information I would greatly appreciate it. She gets along very well with my Boston Terrier and so far seems very intelligent.

In some areas owners of certain dog breeds are required to keep special liability insurance on them, above and beyond home owner’s insurance. In other instances an insurance company may threaten to cancel homeowner’s insurance if the homeowner doesn’t carry separate liability insurance on dogs of certain breeds.
I’m assuming that is what you are talking about.

Last time I checked it out, it was very pricey. Over $1,000 per year, for a dog with no aggressive history, a CGC, and an ATTS cert.

Liability for the dog and any damage or injuries it may inflict would be addressed under his home owners or renters insurance, but don’t assume that it will automatically cover it. Some policies specifically exclude injuries caused by certain dog breeds. You can’t just buy a policy that covers the dog itself, so I can’t tell you how much a policy would cost (i.e. there’s no such thing as a dog liability insurance policy). If he doesn’t already have a policy, he would need to talk to an agent, and find out of they would even underwrite him if he has a pit bull.

As stated, homeowner’s insurance will cover any incidents.
As long as that dog has been properly raised & trained it is no more of a bite hazard than any other breed. Any breed, including mixed breeds, can be a law suit waiting to happen if not properly raised & trained. Worry less about the insurance cost, and more about the time & money, especially the time, that goes into properly raising & training any dog.

If she’s just a pit-bull and not actually vicious, then you could go for the canine good citizen test once she’s trained, which she should be. It’s fairly basic stuff and should lower your insurance liability. It should have an effect on insurance similar to taking a driver safety course and lower the homeowner’s insurance rate.

why do you need insurance on a dog. so what if its a pit bull, your basically saying that no matter how your bf raises him that he is going to be a vicious dog? that is way beyond unfair to the dog. If he is raised and disciplined properly, and exercises and socialized then you will have no problem with him. pits are very intelligent dogs, and great with people and kids and other animals. Stop judging her for her breed and accept her for the dog she is. if i were your bf i would have told you to back off and stop judging things based on a bad rap.

Many insurance companies will not insure if you have a dangerous breed. I got around it by getting their Good Neighbor certificate. You will have to check prices in your area.

Dont worry,if your bf can keep the dog properly trained and disciplined,if will not be dangerous to anyone.
